Cosmetics, examined.
Cosmeview is an independent editorial site for cosmetics reviews, ingredient breakdowns, and how-to guides. We publish for shoppers who want receipts, not vibes.
What we do
We test products. We read the ingredient lists. We compare what brands claim against what’s actually in the bottle. Where it matters, we send formulas to an independent lab to verify active ingredient concentrations. Then we write what we found, clearly enough that you can use it to decide what to buy and what to skip.
How we’re different
Most beauty publications run on a quiet trade between editors and brand PR: free samples, exclusive access, friendly coverage. We don’t take free samples, we don’t accept paid placements, and we don’t let any affiliate relationship change a score. The closest analogue is the way Consumer Reports works for appliances, or the way The Strategist works for recommendations — except specifically for cosmetics, and in more depth.
What we test
Skincare, makeup, haircare, and fragrance. We tend toward products in the under-$100 range because that’s where most readers actually shop, but we cover prestige products when they offer something we can’t find elsewhere. We pay retail for everything we test. (If a brand sends us something unsolicited, we donate it.)
How we score
Every product review carries a score from 1 to 10. The score reflects our overall judgment after testing: efficacy, formulation quality, tolerability, value, and what else exists in the same price band. A 7 is a solid recommendation. A 9+ is rare and means we’d repurchase it ourselves. A score below 5 means we’d advise looking elsewhere.
